Brief introduction to authors :
Mr. Joseph Yu, the father of a girl, wrote one story. He has carefully and conscientiously documented the development of her daughter’s disease and her medical treatment. Mrs. Joyce Li, the mother of another girl, wrote the other story. She has recalled lively their family’s life under the influence of the same disease of her daughter. They have recorded the joy and happiness they had with their daughters. They then had to watch helplessly how this horrible disease took away the life of their beloved daughters eventually. Joyce is a hearing-impaired.

Brief introduction to the story :
These are true stories of two young innocent girls struggling against MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy Lactic Acidosis and Stroke-like Episode), a rare genetic disease. The most tragic thing is that this disease is not curable even in the advanced medical technology of today.

The book captures the heart of the readers with the greatest love of all – parental love. The parents never gave up their hope despite the apparent helplessness of the conditions. Every reader will feel the loving kindness and compassion of the parents. The authors have the good intention to share their experience and feelings with other patients and their families in facing unfortunate rare diseases.

Besides, we also read about the sympathetic concern of human being. Doctors and medical personnel express their deepest sympathy to the patients and their families. There are still so many unknown and unresolved mysteries about human body, its diseases and treatment.
