© Emory University, Atlanta, USA. All the way round the mtDNA genome are the genes for tRNAs. These are labelled with the single character for the Amino Acid the tRNA picks up and delivers to the Ribosome during protein synthesis. The MELAS / MIDD - A3243G mutation is located on the MTTL1 gene, the tRNA for the Amino Acid Leucine, with the abbreviation L, shown on the diagram as MELAS 3243G.
