MELAS - An IntroductionMELAS stands for Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy Lactic Acidosis and Stroke like symptoms. Approximately 80% of MELAS patients carry the A3243G mtDNA point mutation, but MELAS has been associated with at least 6 different point mutations on the mtDNA.
