Tinnitus
Tinnitus describes the noises that some people hear "in their ears" or "in their
head".
These noises can take many forms, with descriptions ranging from whistling,
humming, kettles boiling, to some more peculiar noises such as tunes.
Approximately 75% of people who experience Tinnitus do not give it a
second thought, (or soon learn to do so). However, for the remaining 25%,
Tinnitus can sometimes be very distressing.
According to the RNID, Tinnitus affects about 200,000 people in the UK, of whom
"... at least 5% experience Tinnitus which causes interference with getting to
sleep and/or moderate to severe annoyance".

Although I don't have any medical qualifications,
as a sufferer of Diabetes, Deafness and Tinnitus caused by the A3243G mtDNA defect,
I do have a very keen interest in the subject.
